Privacy Policy
One Long Tail tells the history of science as live, interactive lessons and short videos. This page explains what information we handle on www.onelongtail.org and on our social media channels.
What we collect
You can open every lesson and exercise without an account. Your progress is then kept only in your own browser (local storage) on this device; it is not sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.
If you choose to sign in with your Google account, your progress is also saved to your account. When you sign in for the first time we create an account for you. We store:
- the account number Google gives us for you (it identifies your account),
- your email address, only if Google has verified it,
- the time your account was created,
- your sign-in sessions,
- your learning progress: finished lessons, exercise attempts, streaks, badges and collected items,
- which lessons you have opened and on which day, to count the free lesson of the day,
- if you subscribe: your plan, its status and renewal date, and the customer and subscription numbers Stripe gives us.
We do not receive or store your Google password, and we do not store your name or photo. We do not access your Google account. We use this data only to sign you in and to save your progress. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers. The website has no advertising.
Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the time of each request, to run and protect the service. We do not use these logs to identify you.
Email list
If you join our free email list, we store the email address you type, where on the site you joined and when. You do not need an account for this. We use the address only to tell you about new lessons; we do not sell it or share it with advertisers. To be removed, write to us (see Contact) and we delete it.
Payments
Subscriptions are paid on Stripe's checkout page. Stripe sells the subscription to you as merchant of record and handles tax. Your card number, billing address and other payment details go to Stripe, not to us; Stripe handles them under the Stripe Privacy Policy. From Stripe we receive only whether your subscription is active, its plan and its renewal date.
Measuring interest in new plans
To decide which paid plans to build, we count anonymously how visitors use the site: which pages are opened, whether the Plans section was seen, which plan button was pressed and at which test price, and whether an email was left for that plan. We also note where the visit came from (for example Instagram, YouTube, TikTok or a direct visit), taken from the link's utm_source or the referring site. Each browser gets a random identifier in a cookie (olt_ziyaretci, one year) that is not linked to your name, account or email; it also keeps the test price you see the same on each visit. We do not store your IP address or browser name with these records. The plans shown are not on sale yet: pressing a plan button never asks for payment details and charges nothing. An email you leave there goes to our email list (see below).
Cookies
We use two cookies of our own. One keeps you signed in; it lasts 90 days or until you sign out. The other is the random visitor identifier described above. When you sign in, Google's sign-in service runs on the page; Google handles that data under the Google Privacy Policy.
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used and where visitors come from. It sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) holding a random identifier, and receives the pages you open, your device and browser type and your approximate location. It does not receive your name or email. Google processes this data under the Google Privacy Policy; you can block it with your browser's cookie settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time. Deleting it removes your account and all the account data listed above. If you have a subscription, deleting your account cancels it immediately. If you are signed in, the button below deletes it immediately. You can also ask us to delete it through the contact below.
YouTube API Services
We use the YouTube API Services only to upload our own videos to our own YouTube channel. We do not access, collect or store any data about YouTube users. By watching our videos on YouTube you are bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google handles your data under the Google Privacy Policy.
We publish our videos on Instagram through Meta's official API. We do not collect data about people who view or interact with our posts beyond what Instagram shows to every account owner. Meta handles your data under the Instagram Privacy Policy.
TikTok
We use TikTok's Content Posting API only to send our own videos as drafts to our own TikTok account. We do not access, collect or store any data about TikTok users. TikTok handles your data under the TikTok Privacy Policy.
Children
Our content is general educational content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page.
